The Detective Division handles the investigation of major crimes and incidents including suspicious deaths, sex offenses, child abuse, and robberies. They also conduct general investigations into burglaries, thefts, fraud, computer crimes, drug law violations, and serious juvenile investigations. In addition, the division is responsible for conducting part of the pre-employment background investigations on potential new officer candidates.
Responsibilities
The Detective Division is staffed by three police detectives. These officers are assigned to the division full time to handle all investigations that result from any serious or complex criminal case. In addition, the division liaisons with various federal, state, and local agencies working a variety of criminal investigations inside or including activity in Ross Township. This includes but is not limited to the Joint Terrorism Task Force, the High Tech Crimes Task Force, the District Attorney’s Narcotics Enforcement Team, and the Office of Attorney General’s Drug Task Force.
Polygraph
The Detective Division also has the use of a state-of-the-art computerized commercial polygraph instrument which ensures reliability and accuracy. The polygraph (commonly called a lie detector) is a valuable tool in criminal investigations and applicant screening. This service is additionally available to nearby police agencies to assist with their criminal investigations.
